The great outdoors.

Snow capped mountains.

Today has been a superb day to be honest. The weather has been fantastic, blue skies, sunshine and 15C. I think when you are somewhere for a long period of time, you start taking the beautiful surroundings for granted. On days like today, you can not fail to notice. I am very lucky. The view above is an example of this.

The water level is continuing to drop, so much in fact, I have had to reposition my boat so it is floating in the water again, and not grounded, as it had become; which is no good, when it is needed for a fish in a hurry. I also had to move the rod rests etc.. as my backleads were almost on dry land! I always use them from this swim as the rowers come awfully close to where I am set up.

While I moved the rod rests, I took the opportunity to change my rods. I prepared some hook baits in Imperial Bait’s Carptrack Nut amino dip earlier on this morning, as I think the extra attraction may help. The water temperature is only 7.5c and I think the dip could help in drawing in a fish. In the picture you can see the different pop-ups I am using along with a Nut bottom bait for my snowman set-up. For some colour on two rods, I am using one orange and one white visible pop-up, which are neutral, very bouyant, and take on the dip very well. I am also using the Nut pop-up on two other rods, for more natural presentation. I have cast them all back to exactly the same spots and introduced another 20 boilies with the Boomerang around each hookbait.

When I went out in the boat, the fish finder pinged up one fish at a depth of 25ft, but it could be anything! I have three rods in depths of 21-25ft and one on the plateau at 11ft.

I took advantage of the sunshine today and had a shower as i promised i would. As my shower screen and floor from last year, has been neglected, i chose a new location! I use a solar shower, but I do not rely on the sun to heat up the water. Instead I have a very large saucepan. I boil up hot water in this, and then pour it into the solar shower, mixing in some cold water to make it a comfortable temperature. A sturdy branch/tree is needed to hang it from, and with a little improvisation, you can creat a nice little area to shower in! My shower tree has a branch to hang my towel, a place to hook my radio (so i can sing in the shower), and I even used a little tray to put my shower gel and a sponge on!! There is nothing better than having a nice shower, it has to be said.

The dogs also took advantage of the sunshine, and lay in their favourite spot for a few hours, whilst I did my little spring clean of the bivvy.

Loving 'their' spot.

The moon is full tonight, as ever I am confident, I have a meal to cook, may watch a dvd and generally I shall reflect on what a good day it has been. Thanks go to an Englishman called Glen, a German called Heinz  and a Hungarian called László, for all your comments!

To finish this post, I shall repeat something I heard on the radio today. A man was explaining to his friend why he liked fishing. “When you’re fishing my friend, there is no time to worry”

Goodnight.
