Good Evening.
I can’t believe how quickly the day has passed, and once again I haven’t had a moment to spare. This post will be short tonight as I am very tired, but I will fill you in on what I have managed to get done today. I need to catch my first Salagou carp, but I now think I am getting closer. Okay, I have hooked one already, but let’s face it; that ain’t good enough.
One of my first tasks today was to sort through all of the terminal tackle from Korda and Ace that Dean kindly bought out for me. There was lots of it, and a thorough sort out of my tackle box needed to be done. It seemed to take forever, sorting out all the small fiddly items, and opening numerous packets. I am not complaining though, as my tackle box is literally bulging at the seams, and I feel I am now ready to tackle any situation and be able to tweak and modify and fine tune my end tackle.
Once this was completed it was time to eat. Coffees and cigarettes are no substitute for a good breakfast. I have to admit, when I am setting up and getting started, and let’s face it, this feels like a new session, I do forget to eat properly, as getting everything finished always seems more important. Eating whilst walking round and doing other things at once is not exactly the best way to feed yourself, but sometimes it’s the only way. Yes, the fishing is that important to me!
I spent most of the afternoon rowing back and forth and looking under the surface and on my echo sounder at various features. The weed is definitely the main feature present, but it’s important not to overlook any other inviting areas; plateaus and bars for example. If I work from right to left, I will explain where I have put my rods. The first rod is in front of a large weed bed in the small bay to my right. There are a few beds here, and there is a clear pathway between two of them for fish to move through. The second rod is positioned at the back of another weed bed, on the corner if you like. From the front of my swim there is a clear channel in front of me and there are then weed beds left and right, which is rather convenient. The third rod has actually been put in slightly deeper water. I rowed out past the weed bed to my left in front of me, and the level drops sharply off the back of the weed bed down to 19ft. It flattens out nicely and then gradually gets deeper as it extends out. I have placed one rod just at the start of the flat area of ground at the bottom of the sharp slope. Finally, the fourth rod is to my left hand side of the swim, and conveniently there is another clear channel out to two weed beds. I have placed this rod at the back of ones of these weed beds on the corner again, similar to rod two. I hope you followed all of that!
I have actually decided to place markers and I shall explain why. The markers have been positioned more as a permanent baiting guide, and they have been put in the weed. For example, the two rods that are off the back corners of the weedbeds, I have placed the markers in the actaul corner of each weedbed. I can then accurately put bait out with my catapult knowing it is being placed around the back of the weed. I don’t think that markers in thick weed will spook the fish. I have already put a small amount of bait out several times, but only ten boilies at a time. The little and often approach. I redid all of the rods and got them out by 8pm, and now it is time to wait and see what happens.

The Elite Stawberry boilie is here!!! (apologies for the cheesy photo!)
Finally…the new Elite Strawberry boilie is now available from my sponsor at Imperial Bait’s website www.carp-gps.com and see the additional link for more details!! http://www.carp-gps.com/news/detail.php?id=299
I am off to bed now.
Cheers.

Hi Ronnie.
I was wondering where you had gone. I love your spirit mate. No fish is never a disaster as it is the experience that counts as I know you understand. Cassien is an experience in itself, and if you go to Cassien to catch fish on a short trip then you may go home disappointed. If you go to Cassien simply because you are going to ‘Cassien’ then you sometimes get the trip of a lifetime. I will have to check out that other water at some point.
Salagou is proving a bit tricky but I am working my socks off and I hope a fish comes soon. I am giving the Lot a widebearth actually and heading straight over to Bordeaux to check some waters over there, then up to the Paris area for July.
All the best pal.
