Hot hot hot!!

Good Evening.

The weather is hotting up at Gigantica. By breakfast it was 38 degrees and it looks like it is with us for the whole week. Everyone is finding the heat rather difficult to deal with, fortunately I am used to it by now, and I do get strange looks from people when I walk round in a sweatshirt during the day. I tell them it is my stalking attire!!

A couple of small carp were caught last night by an angler in the productive Tree Line swim. At least there was one smiling angler at the breakfast table. Danny and I have a feeling it is going to be a tough week all round, and it appears the other waters nearby are fishing slowly too, due to the heat. I think anglers always have an excuse as to why they aren’t catching, it’s too hot or it’s too cold, there isn’t any wind, the water levels are too low, the fish aren’t eating etc… I think the fishing style has to be changed in order to overcome these changes in conditions and occasionally trying something a little bit different can put a fish on the bank.

Today I had to start my next article for International Carper. If you think I spend all of my time lounging around on a bedchair in the sun, then think again! When the weather is cooler I find writing articles on the bank quite relaxing, but when it is really hot, the lure of a shady lakeside lodge is far too tempting. Plus it stops sweat dripping onto the keyboard!! A few hours after breakfast and after I had tapped 1500 words out on my laptop; about the adventures myself and Lee Croson had at the ‘Big’ lake, I returned to my swim and sorted out some adjustable Zig rigs. The great thing with these is you can obviously adjust where the bait sits in the water, meaning you can hopefully find the water level where the fish are moving around in, and as the day was so hot, a Zig seemed the best chance for a bite. Tomorrow I will show you how I tie the adjustable Zig rig and also the different and very colourful buoyant hook baits I tried.

After the weekly Gigantica monster BBQ, which always seems to be the most popular meal of the week, Ian and I returned to our swim; The Alamo, to get the rods sorted for the night. I am sticking with my 80 yard spot straight out in front, and the 50 yard spot to my left. The wind has actually picked up a fraction, and is almost blowing in my favour, but it is more of a gentle breeze rather than a nice strong gust. I wouldn’t say the confidence is sky high, but in this game you never can tell!

I will be back tomorrow with a more detailed blog about the Zig technique, and hopefully some fishy news from Gigantica.

Cheers
