Have I Done Enough?…One Night Remains!

March 6, 2010

Good Evening.

We move into the final night of our week long contest at the current destination, and I may have possibly done enough to walk away with the victory. As always though, and with any fishing competition; much can happen on the last night. We have decided to end the contest at midday tomorrow, so we can both wind down and begin to pack up. We are both leaving on Monday morning as we both have long sessions planned at other lakes. I am now very keen to get started on my next mission and this relaxing and enjoyable session has really got my motivation going for the next lake. I hope to be fishing at the next lake within the next week and some of you may be pleased to hear that it is fishing well and some big carp have been caught recently. The stock of carp is less than here and there are certainly more big carp and catching one is a greater possibility.

Now that's what I call food for fishing!

Last night’s action started off early. No sooner had we finished our dinner I had a run. I say a run, but most of my takes have actually been drop backs after the lead has released. The fish then probably wonders what is going on after initially being hooked, as there is no longer any resistance pulling against the mouth. We went out in the boat and a nice looking common was soon bought back to shore.

No desert, but dinner was followed by this cracker!

I mentioned last night that the temperatures dropped; it got very cold indeed, and was in fact, the coldest night of the session. Nothing else happened till 5am this morning, when Danilo had a few beeps on his medium range rod. After a few minutes he returned and we weighed his 5kg carp and it was released immediately. I drifted back to sleep as I heard him disappear into the distance to redrop his rod in the freezing cold – good work!

I was up early this morning, pottering about, washing up, drinking coffee etc… Danilo joined me at about 10am and we shared a coffee and thought about some breakfast. The day was warming up nicely and we both agreed that it looked good for some day-time action. Shortly afterwards one of my river bed rods spurred into action. A very strong and protracted fight took place in the boat and at first I was sure I had hooked something rather large. I saw it deep below the surface but it decieved me as it turned and twisted. I played it very gently and after fifteen miutes a very long and lean common was netted with a big tail. That was the reason for the hard fight!

"You gave me such a battle!"

We prepared to take some shots and weight the carp, then my other rod in the river bed beeped a few times. The bobbin had dropped and I wound down and leaned into the carp. Danilo followed me out in the Bandiga boat with a video camera, and I went out in my inflatable boat. I am currently putting together a short video series for the Korda website of this session and future trips, and this carp fight will be on there! Another long fight took place which was great for the camera and I could see nothing for about five minutes as the carp stayed very deep. Eventually, a short golden, fat common, appeared in the ripple; and finally I pullled him into my net. Wow, I was relieved!

A double figure Nanocarp!!

This carp weighed 10.5 kg and was the bigger out of the two carp caught that morning. We did shots and Danilo took some great video footage and finally it was time to eat our delayed breakfast. We have one more night to see what else gets cauight and then tomorrow the proceedings will draw to a close.

Hooked perfectly!

The scores as we reach day six of the competiton are as follows: Danilo with seven carp has a weight of 54.2kg, and with 13 carp and a total weight of 86.1kg is myself. 31.9kg is a nice lead, but then you can’t be too sure can you. Whatever the outcome, it matters not, as it has been a good battle, undertaken in a friendly and humourous atmosphere. It has also motivated us to work very hard. You could also say it was a fight between Mistral and Dynamite Bait’s. Which one do you prefer?

Catch you tomorrow for the final results and the last blog of this session. I do hope it has been entertaining for you and you have enjoyed it as much as we have.

Cheers

Jake and the dogs.
