Writing the blog at Salagou.

The whole idea behind the blog is to give an ongoing diary of my fishing adventures. The blog was born in January of 2009 at Lac de St. Cassien and I think it is fair to say that it captured the hearts and minds of its readers. It is now July and it has so far had over 185,000 visitors to its pages. Many of you come back frequently to catch up on my progress, and as I intend on writing the blog for the next three and a half years, there is still plenty to be written about!

The blog is a great tool in itself. I can clearly demonstrate my techniques through words and pictures. I can bring you in-depth accounts of my sessions as they unfold. You will get the full roller-coaster scenarios as they happen, and you will witness the fish, as and when I catch them. The blog was intended to be a diary of a full time fisherman. It will have the obvious highs and there will be some guaranteed lows. It will show the true reality of carp fishing, for all its worth.

You can get involved in the blog too! Feel free to post any comments. I will reply to them all. I may be fishing at your favourite lake or on your local stretch of river. I have had many readers of the blog come to see me when I have been fishing at places such as Cassien. My kettle is always on and it will be great to meet you!

I rely heavily on technology in order to write the blog. It is not possible to publish a post if I can not get an Internet connection. I use a mobile broadband USB stick which I plug into my laptop. This gives me access to the Internet. I must also ensure my laptop is charged. This is why I have a solar sponsor; with their panels I can keep my leisure batteries topped up, which in turn keeps my laptop running with the help of an inverter.

I will always try to update the blog daily. This is always my aim. I want you, the reader, to come back each day and follow my journey. The new plan for the blog will be as follows. I will write each post in the evening which will cover what has happened since the last post was published. In the morning I will add to this if necessary. I will then publish each new post at around 10am every day. I will try to be consistent with the times, so you will know when to expect the latest update.

Enjoy the blog!

    Hi Jake

I am glad to see Flash is back even if he missing some tackle. Well done on the new PB I cant beleave the girth of the fish. I now see why you are using Korda hooks in size two. I switched over to Korda hooks a few years back as I was loseing to many fish and I never looked back. When you see Dan next pass on my regards. Hannah (5) has just sat with me and I have shown her the pictures of your dogs she wishes Flash well and asked if she could catch a carp like you have on her Cane rod He He.

    Well done and keep safe

I haven’t read your entire blog yet, but I’m going to.
See you sometime somewhere in Holland maybe !

Cheers and thight lines to you !

    Lucas

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

Sorry for the delayed response! I have been so busy at the WCC.

I will hopefully be fishing in Holland in a couple of years. I have plenty of friends there now and I look forward to it.

  8. Mike Says:

Hi Jake and the dogs, great reading the Carp World reports (Carp World would not be the same without them now), cheers my day up when reading them, thanks for that, all the best Mike

you do reasile your living out all our dreams fella. good luck to you jake and may the sun continue to shine on you.
(what excuse can i give to the missus)

    marco

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

Cheers Marco. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it I guess!! Summer is over now and we are into Autumn. This is my favourite time of year as the temperature is milder, the carp are getting big again, and you still have fairly long days. The bit I don’t like is when the clocks go back and suddenly the days become very short and the nights are sooo… long. Still a winter carp makes up for it and you realise it is still better than sitting in an office somewhere working 9-5!!

      Take care mate.

      Jake

  10. Arran Says:

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

      Hi Arran.
Read it all the way through when you have a chance mate. Lots of interesting chapters….I recommend the Cassien chapters and Enchanted Lake and the Big Lake……if the television is rubbish one evening….read these!

      All the best Jake

  11. Oliver Browne Says:

    Dear Jake

I have just moved down to the South of France and work in Mouians Sartoux wich is 10 mins from Cassien. When are you next down this way? I have been following your progress and thought the best way of trying to do something similar is move. At least youve got a contact down hear if you get in any bother.

    All the best,

    Olllie

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

      Lucky you Ollie.

Good luck at Cassien and if I can help in any way do not hesitate to ask me. When I am next in that neck of the woods we must try and hook up.

      Jake

  12. Oliver Browne Says:

    HI Jake,

I no nothing about Cassien have fished large lakes in France like Lac de Paraloup so any info would be of great use as location and fish movement is the knowledge that is needed. Next time your down let me no and we should meet up. I will sort out some food and drink and anything you need to top up on.

    Speak soon.

    Ollie

  13. Mike Hutchison Says:

    Hey Dude,
Loving the blog mate, makes good reading and up to date stuff. Just try to resist to many blatant plugs on your sponsors gear if possible!? Your such a lucky guy getting to do this and I wish you all the best mate, will be keeping an eye out for updates.

    Cheers,

    Braveheart,

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

Hi Mike. I do appreciate what you are saying with regards to mentioning kit etc….but, I have been waiting a very long time to recieve my T bits so once they were finally in my hands and after surviving with a particular bivvy that was falling to pieces for several months, I was probabaly relieved and excited to know that I now have some homes that will see me through the winter ahead. The blog is about my life and what happens each day, and this was something that genuinely occurred that day and was certainly worth a mention. I do try and keep the actual ongoing story going and your views are taken on board mate. Thanks for reading, I know I am very lucky to be doing what I am and hopefully there will be something that resembles a carp on the blog very soon!!

      Cheers Jake

  14. Marc Brydon Says:

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

      Be in touch

  17. Gaz Says:

    Hi ya Jake,

Been reading ‘No Fixed Abode’ intently for sometime and thoroughly enjoying it. Have finally got round to visiting your blog, finding that great too, and the pics? Leaving me speechless, call me old fashioned but that would make some photo album one day mate!

I’m off to Gigantica in March, would you have any tips you could feed me please bud? I’m keeping an eye on the reports via Danny but anything extra would be fantastic.

Keep up the good work, talk about living the dream! Lucky git.

    Gaz

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

I would certainly suggest getting hold of a copy of the new free Korda Thinking Tackle DVD Gaz. Lots of it was filmed at Gigantica, it gives plenty of tips on how to catch them. I was there when Danny F caught the biggun’ The Giant at 72lbs and it is all on there…

      Cheers

  18. dickie hammond Says:

  19. Marcus Wetzl Says:

Hello Jake and dogs. My name is Marcus I live in Cambridge England and have two labradors that I take fishing every where with me (even to France). I have followed your story in carpworld since it began and enjoyed it every month since.
Could you tell me who is you intertnet provider, how it works and how much it costs please?
I am moving to france this month and need my computer but cant seem to find any body who knows how the French system works, ie is it a dongle? Any help advice would be much appreciated. Marcus.

    • thebigcarphunter Says:

      Hi Marcus.

If you read my survival guide it explains it all in there okay.

Glad you are enjoying my series. Much appreciated!

      Jake and the dogs!!

  20. Marcus Wetzl Says:

Hello Jake, thanks for that . The survival guide was a great help, dont know how I missed it in the first place.
