Hi Jake,

I like biting off more than I can chew and am considering 10-12 days at Cassien next summer for my first ever French trip (glutton for punishment).

I've read Briggsy's book and read International Carper for anything about Cassien but wondered if you have any tips

Am comfortable with big waters and boats - in fact I think you were stood next to me in Veals last year when I was talking to Darren about big water carping and boats as I was just starting out on my current water then!!!

Cheers and good to see you still living the dream

Hi Drew.

Cassien at that time of year will be excellent! The fish will probably be having a good munch before the cold arrrives and most people tend to make a bee line for the North Arm at that time of year...however!! The South and upper reaches of the West arm should not be overlooked. Gary Hilson often fishes the top of the West arm near American Beach at Christmas time and he also likes the South....Gary always seems to have a good result. If the North arm is busy, I would have a good look round and try and find a quiet spot somewhere else. Talk to people when you arrive to get some ideas of where the fish are getting caught from.

Bait wise...one week, two weeks? I would take half a kilo per rod per day mate...at that time of year that will be plenty. Scatter the bait round your hookbait covering a wide area about 10m x 10m. That always worked for me and I am sure nothing has changed!

The nuisance species will probably have quietened down a bit but make sure your hookbaits are hard and try a 20mm snowman too. I had great success with a bright pop-up, white, pink, orange, to compliment my bottom bait. Boilie wise... go with whatever your confident with mate.

Good luck and don't forget your whiskey for those chilly nights.

That is what I like to hear Rodders. I am doing a week at the end of November. It has been a tad bit slow of late...something to do with the weather I think. However I think the fish will have another serious munch before they sulk somewhere for the winter/spring. Danny is the man to ask mate. Each week seems to throw up a new area and some big fish are defo due out. I do hope you catch a whacker and I am sure you will have a top time. Cheers Jake

Hello Jake,

I´ve been reading your blog now for the past 3 days and I must say, I like it a lot. I´m from holland and the last year i´ve fished two times at cassien. Both times without any fish though. This year we will go again for two sessions. Hopefully i will catch my first cassiencarp than. The water has something magical that attrackts me. I hope you will catch your monster.

Good luck!!
